Important Information
Check your tap before you order. This waterer connects to a 3/4" GHT faucet — the standard American outdoor garden-hose thread. The supplied adapter fits that thread and no other. If your outdoor tap is a British or European threaded fitting, or an indoor mixer tap, you will need a separate adapter that is not included. This is the single most common reason one of these does not work on arrival, so it is worth two minutes with a tape measure first.
A claim we are not repeating. The manufacturer's specification sheet lists "heating" and "insulation" among the product's features. The same sheet records the power source as gravity-fed and the item as non-electrical, and there is no heating element in a float-valve bowl. Those two statements cannot both be true. Treat this as an unheated bowl. It will freeze in sub-zero weather like any other, and it should be drained and disconnected before the first hard frost to stop the valve and hose splitting.
No bowl dimensions are published beyond the 2-litre capacity. If the footprint matters — fitting inside a run, a crate or a kennel doorway — message us before ordering and we will ask the manufacturer.
Installation. Make sure the washers are seated in both the hose and the adapter before you tighten anything; almost every leak on these units traces back to a missing or displaced washer. Use the supplied tape on the threads, and open the tap slowly the first time while you watch the valve shut off.
Cleaning. Rinse the bowl every few days. Standing outdoor water grows algae in warm weather regardless of how it is fed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need electricity or batteries? No. It is entirely mechanical — a float valve opens and closes with the water level.
Will it fit my outdoor tap? Only if the tap is 3/4" GHT, the standard US garden-hose thread. Other threads need an adapter you would have to buy separately.
Can I leave the tap on all the time? That is how it is designed to work — the float valve holds back the supply once the bowl is full. Turn the tap off if you will be away for a long period, simply because any permanently pressurised hose is a slow leak waiting to happen.
Is it safe in winter? No. Despite what the specification sheet says, this is not a heated bowl. Drain and disconnect it before freezing weather.
Can more than one animal use it? Yes — it refills continuously, so it suits several dogs, or mixed livestock, better than a static bowl of the same size.
How long is the hose? 1.5 m, about 4.9 ft. If you need the bowl further from the tap you can substitute a longer standard garden hose.
