A frozen water bowl is one of the quiet cruelties of winter, and it hits outdoor dogs, barn cats and feral colonies hardest. This heated pet water bowl holds its contents at 25-30°C automatically, so water stays drinkable through a hard frost. It takes 2.5 litres - a full day's drinking for most dogs - and the 1.8m lead is wrapped in a metal tube, because anything left outdoors near a bored dog needs a chew-proof cord.

US plug only. We deliberately stock only the 110V US-plug version of this bowl. The supplier also makes a 220V EU-plug version, and we do not carry it, because it is no use to an American customer.

The wattage is not published. The supplier states the temperature range and the safety cut-outs but does not publish a power rating, so we cannot tell you the running cost. Ask us and we will put the question to the supplier.

Run it from a protected outdoor circuit. This is a mains appliance being used outside in wet, freezing conditions. Use a properly rated outdoor socket with a GFCI/RCD, keep the plug end dry and off the ground, and route the cord where it will not be walked on or driven over.

Check the cord regularly. The metal wrap is chew-resistant, not chew-proof. If your dog is a determined chewer, inspect it weekly and replace it at the first sign of damage.

Not a deep-freeze solution. A 25-30°C bowl will keep water liquid in normal frost. In extreme, sustained cold, check it daily rather than assuming.
- Unplug before cleaning. Wipe with a damp cloth; do not submerge the unit.

Does it come with a US plug?
Yes. The version we stock is the 110V US plug. We do not sell the EU version.
How much power does it draw?
The supplier does not publish a wattage. We would rather say so than quote a figure we cannot support.
Can I use it for stray or feral cats?
Yes, and it is one of the better uses for it - the supplier lists stray cats, chickens, birds, squirrels and rabbits alongside dogs and house cats. It needs a sheltered spot with a safe route for the cable.
